The precast fabricated small box girder bridge has been more and more used in urban trestle and highway bridge which have spans from 20 to 40m. The traditional method has errors while calculating the transverse distribution of load of the small box girder, because it has done larger simplifying to the sectional characteristic of the girders and the joint stiffness among the girders. This issue was less made in-depth study materials at present.In this paper, the transverse distribution of load of the precast fabricated small box girder bridge was main discussed. First of all, the structure characteristics of the small box girder bridge have been summed up and the research situation of the transverse distribution of load both at home and abroad has been introduced. Secondly, the coefficient of the transverse distribution of load and the internal forces of each girder have been calculated with the traditional method. Thirdly, according to the actual conditions, the entity's finite element model has been set up based on the space finite element method, and then the internal forces have been calculated. Finally, the errors of the traditional method relative to the space finite element method have been calculated by contrasting and analysing each other, and then the cause of the error has been analysed. The results of the theory of rigidity cross beam, the theory of hinged girder and the theory of rigid connected girder have been compared with the results of the space finite element method by analysing the examples of the small box girder bridge, and then the suitability and the accuracy of the transverse distribution of load of the theory above have been demonstrate.In this paper, the theory gist and the relevant compared datum are provided, for more research of the transverse distribution of load of the precast fabricated small box girder bridge and choosing the most reasonable theory of the transverse distribution of load of the precastfabricated small box girder bridge.
