The highway in operation has rapidly increased and the quality of highway has incessantly improved, that promotes the development of highway freight transportation in our country, stimulates market requirement of autotruck, urges autotruck manufacturer to improve the level of designing and manufacture.It is found that the proportion of the no-load autotruck is comparatively high, through the investigation of the running state of autotruck in the freeway and charged highway of ten provinces or municipality. Especially, the proportion of the no-load autotruck which engages unilateral transportation is 50 percent, such as container carrier, tank motor truck and so on. For a long time, the autotruck manufacturer and the vehicle research center thought that the proportion of the no-lade autotruck is very small. Compared with the research of autotruck's running performance under the full-load and overload status in our country, the research under no-load or few load is blank.This paper has carried on the contrast study of running performance of the autotruck under the no-load and full-load status. In contrast to the full-load running performance of autotruck, the no-load running performance of autotruck has the own characteristic, such as: the maximum gradeability on low friction coefficient road is less; the engine is in the non-economic loaded area and the fuel economy is worse; the ride performance is worse; the braking distance is longer and the braking stability is worse; with the weight increasing, the degree of understeer decreases or the degree of oversteer increases.This paper aims to make the autotruck manufacturers pay much more attention to the no-load running performance of autotruck. In the beginning of designing the new product, the autotruck manufacturers need to make full consider of the difference between the no-load and full-load running performance, and accession assistant equipment if necessary, so that the autotruck has excellent running performance under the no-load and full-load status.
