In the past decade, lots of experts have paid attention to the application of Intelligent Transportation Systems(ITS).Within the framework of ITS, Advanced Traveler Information Systems(ATIS) provide historical, real-time and predictive information to support travel decisions. This in turn influences the travel choice of individuals so as to alleviate congestions and enhancing the performance of traffic network. Then, it is important to study ATIS-based urban road transportation network design both in theory and reality fields.Stating the important of research on urban road transportation network design, presenting a general survey of existing literature in the urban transportation road network design based ATIS, the paper study as following:Firstly, travel time reliability is one of important indicators in system performance. considering travel demand fluctuation and link capacity degraded, the paper sets up a bi-level model to represent the urban transportation network problem that to reduce drivers' travel time uncertainty baesd on ATIS. In the bi-level model, the upper level is aimed to maximize the total travel time reliability (TTR) and the lower level represents the behaviors of stochastic route choice based on ATIS. Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm is used to solve the model and a numerical example is provided. The computation results show that, after system optimization by equipping ATIS the TTR of the network is improved greatly.Secondly, with the rapid growth of automobile volume, vehicle fuel consumption increases rapidly.A bi-level programming model is proposed to describe the optimization programming problem for the optimal velocity with advanced traveler information systems and fuel consumption. The upper level programming is to determine optimal vehicular velocity by minimizing the system travel cost and total amount of gas, while the lower one is an equilibrium problem by integrating the elastic demand and stochastic user equilibrium. An equilibrium iterative solution algorithm is represented. A simple numerical example is given to illustrate the applications of the model. The results show that, with the decrease of awareness, the number of the drivers equipped with ATIS is increased in order to reduce the system total cost. Finally, they are uncertainties in both demand and supply sides of a road network. These uncertainties are mainly due to adverse weather conditions with different rainfall intensities on the road network. The paper sets up an equilibrium problem by integrating the elastic demand and stochastic user equilibrium based different travel time functions. An equilibrium iterative solution algorithm is represented. A simple numerical example is given to illustrate the applications of the model.
