People in modern times have less working hours and more spare time, their focus on meeting the needs of survival have been gradually shifting to realizing the value of life, enjoying leisure time and meeting the spiritual needs. Leisure has been an essential ingredient of life. As a result, leisure centers that serve as one type of carriers of cultural life have created important public cultural-sites for leisure, which is able to meet people's needs for leisure. It has become a new issue with increasing value for interior design that creating harmonious, magnificent urban leisure spaces which can lead the trend of leisure life culture of local residents. However, due to the immaturity of urban leisure development and the insufficiency of researches on the subject of urban leisure space design, high quality leisure sites are still not fully developed to meet needs for leisure in most cities in China. The same problem also exists in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. People generally recognize leisure as entertaining themselves, without distinguishing the differences of positive leisure and negative leisure as well as ignoring the relation between leisure and spiritual culture. Positive leisure is mainly cultural innovation and spiritual intelligence, which is closely related to cultural spirit. This paper bases on a review of literature on leisure culture and leisure centers, reflecting leisure and leisure style from a spiritual culture point of view, analyzing interior design of leisure centers in Inner Mongolia from a spiritual leisure perspective, and meanwhile emphasizing the meaning and importance of importing Mongolian spiritual culture into leisure sites design in Inner Mongolia in order to meet people's psychological needs for leisure sites. As spiritual culture is a large profound system, in this paper, my research merely tries to explore one certain angle and direction which can be applied to interior design of leisure sites. This paper takes several typical aspects in Mongolian traditional spiritual culture as the starting point of the research, in combination with spiritual leisure needs in spiritual cultural context, theoretically analyzes the problems existing in leisure sites in Hohhot. Meanwhile, it borrows experience from leisure sites design in big and middle sized cities both at home and abroad, studies on the physical sensing of leisure culture by doing researches on leisure site designs in Hohhot and brings forward that interior design of leisure sites should combine Mongolian spiritual culture, regional characteristics and national characteristics. It also proposes the value, meaning and design principles of interior design of leisure sites and additionally explores physical sensing of spiritual culture on leisure sites, to impact and direct interior design of leisure sites in Inner Mongolia. This paper provides some useful suggestions about urban leisure sites design in Inner Mongolia to enhance the perfection and development of it. It explores the joint of leisure culture and spirit through studies and advocates to building up a new and healthy spiritual leisure cultural cognition. In addition, it provides a new way of thinking for administrative departments and attempts to illustrate a new concept for way of life. It is expected that these research results will be of help to similar studies on leisure sites design in ethnic minority areas in China and provide referential information for leisure sites designers to help them in their further practical activities.
