Sight distance is one of the important design indices to ensure the driving safety, also one of the rigid indices in the road project construction standard.The sight distance of every point along the road should be enough,so that the drivers can see the road condition to do something at once in order to ensure the driving safety.Therefore,the calculation of sight distance is very important in the road designation.In the paper,3D dynamic sight distance is put forward aiming at 3D road shape, drivers' characteristics dynamic visual angle and vehicles' characteristics to quantize the information of drivers' vision.And some research about traffic safety evaluation method based on the given index,3D dynamic sight distance,has been done.The 3D dynamic sight distance model is constructed after the representation of 3D road linearity.And in the model,the road linearity,the drivers' dynamic visual angle, and the headlights' diffuse angle are all considered.And then,the road traffic safety evaluation model is constructed through referring to the regulation design sight distance corresponding to the given operating speed according to "Technical Standard of Highway Engineering".Finally,according to the test road,the 3D dynamic sight distance model and the road safety evaluation model based on 3D sight distance researched in the paper is tested and used.Based on the design speed and the speed of forecast,the 3D dynamic sight distances of all points of the road were calculated,the road safety was evaluated and some essential reason analysis was done to the road which has a poor safety evaluation result,so that the model is feasibility.And then,the model is reasonable and practical through the compare between the sight distances calculated by 3D dynamic sight distance model and Gitish Nehate model.The model constructed in the paper supplied a new think and method for road traffic safety evaluation.It has very significant meaning for ensuring the road traffic safety level,reducing the road accident incidence and accident severity.
