Sight distance is the key that road traffic safety,and a mandatory indicator of the road construction standards.At each lane of the highways ,singht distance should be sufficient to enable the driver to timely detect potential hazards,and make the right response,and ensure traffic safety.Sight distance evaluation methods of road safety are an important component of road safety maintenance support technology. By such a safe technology, highway projects under design, construction and operation, transportation projects and road users or any related projects carried out official sight distance inspection and evaluation to identify potential hazards and eliminate potential safety problemsThrough analysis of the relevant research results from both domestic and abroad, this paper summed up the two-dimensional sight distance physical model and calculation methods of existing highway. It also summed up the points and methods of inspection for the plane intersection and interchange. Based on the research results and analysis of existing 3D dynamic sight distance models, and the principle of using analytic geometry of space, a formula of three-dimensional of sight distance is derived. A new three-dimensional model and detection method are also established,which provides a theoretical and technical support for 3D dynamic sight distance inspection.According to different requirements of the evaluation for preliminary highway design, construction plans and design of the operational phase,the evaluation process, content and methods are established respectively and the corresponding security measures aiming at the problem are put forward to further improve our highway security evaluation techniques.
