The research on the hardware design of Object-based Storage Controller to make the intelligent management and the complicate protocol decode easier and faster is of great value to improve the performance of Object-based Storage System. With SoPC(System on Programmable Chip) technology, the design and implement of Object-based Storage Controlle based on FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array) is cost-effective, convenient to debug and easy to specify functions.The PCB(Printed Circuit Board) design and implementation of the Gigabit Ethernet part of the Object-based storage controller based on Cyclone II has been finished,which includes key models such as CPU, memory, flash, provides Gigabit Ethernet interface to the internet and PCI(Peripheral Component Interconnect) interface to the host and other models such as power supply , clock and so on to make the system complete. Object-based storage controller belongs to the high-speed circuit because of the 100MHz global clock, so many factors such as layout, routing and impedance match and so on have been taken into account to avoid the problems of signal integrity. Simulation based on IBIS(I/O Buffer Information Specification) model to ensure the correctness of circuit has been done. The debug strategies about different models have been brought out and the debug work is in process.Furthermore, a solution to realize an Object-based storage controller based on Virtex-4 is proposed. The PowerPC integrated in Virtex-4 can deal well with the management work on object-based storage device. Many interfaces including Gigabit Ethernet, Fiber Channel, SATA(Serial Advanced Technology Attachment), PCI-X(Peripheral Component Interconnect eXtended) have been realized; Three methods to config the FPGA have been provided. The schematics of this design have been finished with Capture CIS, an EDA(Electrinic Design Automation) tool from Cadence Corp. The netlist files providing the necessary information to the next design work have been generated successfully.
