Patterns Of Ancient Villages Of Zhujiayu Settlement

An ancient village is an epitome of the whole society and a simple place rich of living atmosphere. The development of an ancient village bears the impress of history and witnesses the changes of the times. As an ancient village of Ming and Qing dynasty , which is conserved relatively well, Zhujiayu has unique settlement form and vemacular culture. However, immediate actions are required to protect and develop this village, since its architectural styles and cultural environments are being destroyed under the circumstances that the traditional villages are threatened by the modernization.This paper makes a study of the whole environment of Zhujiayu, researches on its settlement form from various angles, in order to achieve a deep understanding and an objective evaluation.The paper mainly consists of three parts:First, the evolvement and development of the settlement form are discussed though the analysis of the main factors which influenced the settlement's layout, from aspects of natural environment, historical evolution and context, etc.Second, the key elements that constitute the village as well as their correlation are analyzed in the aspects of the special pattern, road system, water system and architecture, etc.Third, based on the evaluation of the village state and existing problems, suggestions of protection and development of the village are proposed. Furthermore, enlightenment of village plan are elicited from the scenery arrangement approaches of traditional settlement, in order to guide the reform of the village environment of today and in the future to make it be prosperous and attractive afresh.
