Military transport is one indispensible part of military logistics. It is a highly intricate and massive military operation due to its extremely extensive and diverse demands. As one important part of military transport, military highway transport command is to meet tough requirements posed by modern war. And at the same time, military highway transport command involves many factors that affect its function. This paper firstly analyses the route optimization of military highway transport, and applies tabu search algorithm in the route optimization of military highway transport, which enhances the algorithmic efficiency and searching accuracy. The paper then analyses and determines major factors which influence the route optimization in tactics, and regards these factors as a criterion in choosing the route. This paper also suggests application of multi-targets policymaking methods and construction of a practical, effective and rational mathematical model in solving the route optimization in military highway transport. Genetic algorithm is also applied in solving vehicle routing problems with time window considering the characteristics of military highway transport under the circumstances of modern war. Finally, the paper summarizes and anticipates future studies in this field. The model established in this paper is applicable to solve some other relevant problems, for example, it can be used in solving other similar problems in military highway transport if the restricting factors are weakened or strengthened. Therefore, the algorithm and thoughts in this paper may extend to civil transport and other related fields.
