An Approach To Ideas And Works Of Hassan Fathy

Hassan Fathy,the Egyptian architect,focused on the building activity and research of the poor population of developing countries through all his life.He claimed to create localization environment that raise a country region economy and life quality with minimal investigation.He believes that the development of architecture would not loss its foundation only if the tradition,scale and values of mankind can be embodied in architecture design.Hassan Fathy believes that traditional culture has experienced a long period of development,which is not only some specific forms of local characteristics,but also contains people's living habits and lifestyle,and the development of architecture should not at the cost of destroying tradition.The main body of architecture is people,thus architecture must respect the tradition of people,correspond to the scale of people and reflect the value of people.The age in which Hassan Fathy lives has some similarities with our country:both Egypt and China have profound traditional culture,and the two countries are carrying out large-scale rural construction and renovation.In the procedure of construction and development,how we deal with traditional culture,discarded or inheritance it,and how to inherit,Fathy has carried out detailed research and exposition on these issues.Through study of Fathy's theory,this article proposed examples and reference for our country's building activities,especially the construction of rural areas.This thesis is divided into six chapters,three major parts:the first part(Chapterâ… ) described the proposed topic,research purpose and meaning,the status and methods of the study.The second part(chapterâ…¡-chapterâ…¤),introduced Egypt natural environment and the social-historical background,as well as the characteristics of Egypt traditional architecture,and look back to the formation of early architectural style and its concept of Hassan Fathy.The design process and construction methods of the most representative Hassan Fathy works-New Gourna Village,has been described in detail, based on which the creation theory of Fathy is analyzed specifically.Then,through a series analysis of his architectural works,the features of Fathy's architectural design are showed intuitively.It's the main part of this article.Partâ…¢(Chapterâ…¥)summarized some principles of Hassan Fathy's construction design,and clearly pointed out its revelation and value towards the process of building development and design of our country.
