The steel reinforced concrete structure has been widely applied in practical engineering.Joint is the key part connecting beams with columns, and the internal force transfer from beam to column through joint,so the security of joints is critical to ensure the structure working normally. Also, the mechanical behaviors of the joints are very complex under the loading,so it is necessary to research the behavior and failure mechanism of the joint. As the experiment research costs a lot of manpower and material resources, the finite element method is an effective tool for simulation and analysis. In this paper, the finite element software ANSYS is used for analyzing the performance and failure mechanism of the joint of SRC column-RC beam.According to the principle of strong members and weak joints,APDL program is applied to establish five groups of finite element models of the joint. The process of crack developing and the stress distribution of concrete and steel of the joints have been analyzed.Simultaneously, the influence of steel web thickness, concrete strength and rate of stirrups on the shear strength of the joint has been researched. It is shown that the shear failure mainly occurs in the joint under monotonous loading, and the shear capacity of the joint is composed of the steel web, stirrups and the concrete. The steel web not only enhances the shear capacity, but also greatly improves the ductility. The influence of the rate of stirrups on shear strength is not,but obviously on the ductility. The shear strength of the joint increases with the increase of the concrete strength.Based on the research results domestic and abroad, the load-bearing mechanism of the joint is analyzed, and the formula for calculating the shear capacity of SRC column-RC beam joint is put forward,as well as shear coefficientγof concrete is proposed to be 0.27 for the interior joints and 0.17 for the exterior joints.
