Low-voltage circuit breakers is an important member of low-voltage electrical apparatus, its performance mostly depend on performance of operating mechanism. Domestic designers mainly use graphical solution method, i.e. drawing the position of mechanism motion at every moment, to get motion characteristic of mechanism, which has many disadvantages such as inaccuracy. The application of virtual prototype technology can greatly simplify process of mechanical product development, shorten circle of product development, decrease cost as well as get the most optimized systematical capability of product.ADAMS is one of the famous virtual prototype analytic software. The application of ADAMS can help us to conveniently analyze virtual prototype in statics,kinematics and dynamics.The main content of this paper:1. Introduce virtual prototyping software ADAMS in the development of the low-voltage circuit breakers and the applications of the need to pay attention to.2. Adams is applied to operating mechanical movement simulation of a circuit breaker, analyzing the mechanism opening motion, giving the factors of impacting on the speed of opening. Based on this, puts forward the suggestions to optimize the operating mechanism.3. Use the functional of optimizing and analyses of ADAMS software, using the optimized method determination the mechanism system closing energy, the energy released during spring closing in the energy minimum and simultaneously meet the dead bodies, to optimize the design the stored spring of required.4.According to the optimized data, manufactured the storaged springs and installed in switchs, mechanical life test last. Mechanical Life expectancy increased an average of 18 percentage points. This shows that optimal design of the spring will help improving the life of mechanical switches.
