Yangzhou Dayang Shipyard is located in the water area which is formed by the cut of Hechang Zhou left branches.The new CROWN118 vessel goes into Hechang Zhou left branch through Xin Zhou left branch,and then passes the end opening of Hechang Zhou left branch into the Yangtze River main channel.Both Xin Zhou left branch channel and Hechang Zhou which are both in natural conditions without any navigation marks haven't been opened for navigation.The Xin Zhou left branch channel is bent,and it is perforated by -4.0m depth curve.However,the channel is narrow and the middle part is the narrowest.The -4.0m depth curve is only more than 70 meters wide and the end opening of its middle part is variable.The Hechang Zhou left branch channel is bent but it has good depth conditions.The -10.5 meters depth curve is more than 500 meters but it has not been opened for navigation channel yet.CROWN118 vessel which has a length of 260m and a Beam of 43m is a 118000DWT bulk cargo carrier.The launch draft of the new ship with 20%ballast water is 6.2m.According to the ship's main dimensions,the channel's dimensions ranging from Dayang Shipyard to Hechang Zhou left branch cannot comply with the requirement for safe navigation of CROWN118 vessel.If Hechang Zhou north branch is opened for navigation,when ships navigate from Dayang Shipyard to the main channel of the Yangtze River,they will have to go against the routing system which will exerts greater pressure to ship's safety navigation and security monitoring.According to the analysis of various navigation environment elements, combining with the actual situation in the channel segment,and based on various specification and ship's handling knowledge,the paper aims to solve the following issues:(A)The essential channel conditions for safety navigation of the CROWN118 vessel.(B)The ancillary facility for ship's safety navigation from Xiantaiwei to Hechang Zhou left branch.(C) The navigation condition effects and countermeasures which exist in safety navigation of the CROWN118 vessel.(D) The safety precautions for the manoeuvring of CROWN118 vessel.(E) The safety and security measures for ship's navigation.For the above-mentioned issues,the solutions are as follows:(A) Use the formulas in the specification and drift value calculation model in straight and bent channel,find out the navigation requirements when CROWN118 vessel sails from Dayang shipyard to Hechang Zhou left branch.(B) Distribute navigation marks in the channel from Xiantaiwei to Hechang Zhou left branch;and deploy sufficient power and enough tugboats.(C) From the analysis of navigation condition,find out the effects and countermeasures which exist in the navigation process of CROWN118 vessel sailing from Dayang shipyard to Yangtze left branch.(D) According to the characteristics of the channel segment and ships,set up ship operation measures.(E)Propose security control and supervision measures in the process of navigation.According to above analysis and research on the issues,we draw conclusions on the channel conditions,natural conditions,security facilities,safeguards steps, security and regulatory measures which are required for safety navigation of the CROWN118 ship,aiming to not only provide a scientific basis for the plan and construction of waterways ranging from Xiantaiwei to Hechang Zhou north branch, but also provide references to the safety navigation of CROWN118 vessel series.
