Rock bedded slope is a kind of complex slope containing stratification plane and other type structural plane. Massive project experience in the past indicated that rock bedded slope is a type of most unstable and harmful slope as this kind of slope has caused heavy losses for the engineering construction and the people life and property. However, the research on rock slope hasn't been very thorough so far, especially lacking of scientific analysis of its stability influencing factors, so it is significant to have a further study on stability of rock slope.Common destruction patterns of slope are simulated by distinct element method. Stability factors of slope under different influencing conditions are calculated based on failure mode and failure mechanism of rock slopes. Some conclusions are obtained as follows:(1) After having an introduction of developments of research on slope engineering as well as its management technique, main method and state of analysis of slope stability have been summarized, and the state of field of the rock bedded slope is introduced.(2) Impacting factors of rock bedded slope's stability, such as dip angle of rock formation, formation mechanism and its characteristic, structural surface, water, earthquake, excavation etc, are introduced in detail with references. Classification of rock bedded slope type is introduced. The failure modes of rock bedded slope are analyzed systematically according to classification; meanwhile, some widely used analysis methods and evaluation criterion of slope stability are introduced.(3)The main failure modes of rock bedded slope are simulated by using the distinct element analysis procedure UDEC after discussing each failure mode simply. Based on this, influencing factors on most common slope failure modes are simulated numerically. Influencing factors of slope stability, such as strata thickness, stratification inclination angle, stratification frictional angle, stratification cohesion, rock frictional angle, rock density and joint penetration grade are discussed by massive examples.
