Because of the unfavorable factors brought about by substantial use of brick for environmental protection and agricultural production, the state expressly limits the use of clay brick, and advocates for researching and developing new types of wall materials. New wall materials, featured of hollow, fluffy, soft and friable, lead to fastening problems in both internal and external decoration works. As a new type of wall materials, hollow brick masonries have different stress factors from ordinary solid bricks. However, in existing norms, the mechanical properties of the two are equivalent, therefore, it is essential to further study the mechanical properties of hollow brick masonry and new expansion bolts.First, pull-out test was exerted to the new type of expansion bolt with self-bolt effect in the hollow brick masonry to verify its reliability. Then the paper analyzed the impact of expansion bolt on the structure around hollow brick masonry by using finite element method in the pull-out process, set up finite element model, and depth analyzed the mechanical characteristics, failure mechanism around the expansion bolt and the wall stability, used ANSYS software to calculate the stress distribution, the limit values of hollow brick of different rate of holes in the process of drawing, explored stress field and stress changes around hollow brick. Results showed that: this new expansion bolts were secure and reliable.Through the pull-out test on the new expansion bolts and hollow brick masonry, as well as the finite element analysis, the results showed that: though the extreme anchoring strengths of expansion bolts were varied at different positions, they all reached or slightly exceeded the bolts' designed tensile value that the standard had required. This thus proves the applicability of the special expansion bolts with self-bolt effect in the hollow brick masonry; relieves society's worries of their anchoring reliability in porous bricks. It is beneficial to the wide application of this technology.
