Ecological Ideas, Eco-Techniques In Architecture Design

While more and more novel architecture styles are emerging during the new era, many architectural experts with insight, who realize the demand of sustainable development, have promoted the combination of ecology and architecture, and tried to seek the approach to the integration of ecological technology and architectural design, in order to implement the ecological ideas in the architectural design. However, in the development of the ecological architecture of China, many architects, who are will to attempt the ecological architecture deign, cannot seize the essentials, and often feel at a loss in their actual project, due to the confusion of ecological concept, the complexity of ecological technology and the lake of excellent example.Against the problem mentioned above, the necessity and significance of ecological architecture is analyzed as the first step in this thesis, according to the policy of Energy Saving and Emission Reduction by the government of China. The strategies of ecological architecture deign are then divided into three types, i.e. Resources-reservations Oriented, Green-harmony Oriented, and Variable-condition Compatible, with the manner of accepting its excellence and rejecting its weakness, eliminating its mask and retaining its truth. Secondly, some typical ecological technologies, which are popular and good for industrialization, are chosen as demonstrations and analyzed, such as solar energy technology, ground source heat pump technology, together with natural ventilation and lighting technology. Investigation is carried out to combine these ecological technologies with architecture design. Afterwards, several trends of in-depth ecological design are discussed, including (a) building material reproduction, (b) recycle and utilization, (c) structure optimization, (d) endurance and flexibility. Thirdly, from the point of view of practice, some ecological projects around the world are illustrated as examples, and classified into four types according to their applicability, namely, original ecosystem, rural type, urban type and demonstration. And some of them are chosen to analyze their innovation and practicality.Finally, based on two practical works by myself, which feature ecological design, including one work for the Taida Cup International Solar Energy Architectural Design Contest of Solar World Congress 2007, some suggestion are proposed on the generalization and industrialization of economical ecological architecture.
