Being the major trend of the development of the world architecture in the 21st century, building energy conservation, which has received universal attention across the globe, has become a great symbol of the progress of building technology. Building energy conservation is an important domain of energy saving which is a long-term strategic goal of our national economic development. The building trade in China with residential housing as its representative has been developing at high speed in the recent 10 years with average annual completion of residential areas reaching 0.266 billion m~2. Despite the huge achievement and progress of solving the housing problem in China, the natural ecological environment has been seriously damaged by the constructions of buildings. In a nation of energy shortage, China's per unit building area energy consumption is two or three times that of the developed nations. The building energy consumption has accounted more than 27% of the total energy consumption and the percentage is very likely to rise to 35%. Up to the present, only 0.32 billion m~2, less than 1% of the total 40billion m~2 existing building area(among which, cities and towns residence building area is around 10,2billion m~2), is building of energy conservation. The 21st century residential housing construction will have a far-reaching impact on the development of China as the residential housing industry will grow continuously at a fast pace. China's building industry with dwelling construction as its representative is undergoing a great transformation from quantity to quality. Being a great symbol of the progress of the quality of building, ecological residence becomes a cut-in point in turning to sustainable development of the trade. The old development mode of high-energy consumption and serious pollution of building trade should be abolished in the new century while ecological residence is a must way out for the development of the trade. The goal for the future of the trade should be to build ecological residence, which requires fewer resources, less energy consumption to build for improved environmental quality along with raising theenvironmental protection capability. To seek a balance between fast economic growth and well-preserved ecological environment is an important principle to follow in the choice of ecological building technology. In view of the economic development level and the existing technology, the author believes that general technology and low technology should be taken in developing the ecological residence, as residential housing is a massive type of architecture. And in-advance design can be done on the foundation of the above if conditions permit.This paper mainly explore the possibility and feasibility of building ecological residence by using of high workable, low-priced energy ,suitable saving techniques such as low energy consumption general design method, outer protective structure, heat insulation system, solar energy application. The aim of the study is to reach the goal of energy saving on the premises of no substantial rise of construction costs as well as being a guiding principle of the universal application of ecological techniques in residential housing construction. Accordingly, evaluation system with its quantification index should be set up to popularize the positive economic and ecologic results of arcology. Finally, the further study on ecologic residence construction is to be discussed briefly.
