The measurement of Gyro-theodolite has nothing with the effects of weather, earth and other magnetic field, it can carry out autonomous north-seeking at any time and place (expect the Antarctic and the Arctic), so it has become one of the main instruments directed in engineering and military fields. Most traditional gyro used manual, workload was heavy, measuring time was long, random error was also large. In order to automating operation, developing algorithms with high precision and short time, the issue designs a north-seeking system of Gyro-theodolite based on PC.The system includes three parts of gyro-theodolite, data collection and measurement software. Gyro is the signal source of measurement. Data collection means hardware of the system, its Implementation process is that the course signal is collected by CCD, pre-treated by SCM, and transmitted to PC for further processing via USB. Measurement software is the north-seeking software in PC, it realizes the functions of data reception, intelligent diagnosis, curve displaying, data fitting, result calculating, data preservation and up/down control of sensitive component.In the north-seeking software in PC, object-oriented interface used for operating and showing is designed, not only operation simplify, but also current location and entire movement curve display real-time then make the observation convenient. Intelligent diagnosis of sensitive component's movement can discover problem and reduce the possibility damage to equipment. For widespread of USB interface, it is used to achieve communications between hardware and PC. Fitting of experimental data can reduce random errors generated by sensitive component jittering. The system also integrates some algorithms: acceleration north-seeking, transit, real-time transit, cycle and 1/4 cycle integration, database query. They separately have advantages and disadvantages, users could make choice according requirements to get best results.The new algorithm of database query is developed on experimental data, not only is the process simple, but also is the precision up to 1 9′′with 3 minutes north-seeking time, it has obvious advantage compared to all other algorithms.
