Modern urban traffic growing congestion day by day which brings a lot of inconvenience for people's life, the crossroad is the main cause of traffic jam. Traffic controllers have the direct impact on the situation of traffic junctions, so it means important for the city's traffic situation's improving. The traditional traffic signal controller which can solve the traffic problem to some extent, but in view of the status of China's urban traffic, there are still some deficiencies and shortcomings in these systems. So the subject of this paper is Multi-phase traffic controller based on CPLD.This paper studied the urban traffic control theory and analyzed the characteristics of the traffic flow in the crossroad, it was found that the traffic situation in China was adapted better by the Multi-Phase traffic signal controllers. Through the study of the information of the traffic signal control from the home and abroad, and research the traffic signal control system on the composition, function and method of control, the paper research a new type of multi-phase traffic signal controller. There are two parts in the system, hardware and software, the main controller, human-computer interface and serial communication interface compose the hardware. The major of software is used VHDL language programming to achieve the desired function. Because of the stability request of the traffic signal controller, the paper studied the anti-jamming characteristic of digital system, and explored how to reduce interference, thus making the system more stably. Finished the software design and complete the testing and certification by the Testbench and experimental system, and got the satisfied results.
