With the rapid economic development and the continuous expansion of the city, theurban traffic congestion is increasingly serious, and it has been an urgent problem waiting besolved. Thus, the study of urban road traffic control technology has become a hot topic ofcurrent research field of traffic control engineering. Traffic signal controller, as the coreequipment to achieve the intelligent control for the city intersection, the technical level of itsdesign and the architecture affect the traffic safety and the level of service of the intersectionsdirectly.For the current urban road intersection traffic flow is characterized by uneven trafficflow, and the development of the domestic traffic signal controller, in this thesis, amulti-phase intelligent traffic signal controller which the software and hardware can becropped was designed, the main tasks are as follows:1. The structure of traffic signal controller hardware adopted modular design, includespower supply board, control board, phase plate, and the function relatively independencebetween modules, so it reduced the coupling between modules. The main control board, usinghigh-performance LPC3250ARM9as its mircoprocessor, rich peripheral interfaces and canconnect with other functional modules easily, the phase plate connected to the control boardby using I2C, the simple control logic improved the stability of the traffic signal controller,what’s more, there’s aslo a feedback circuit for the real-time operating status of the blinker, sothat it realized the detection of the signal malfunction.2. The design for the traffic signal controller software, including build the developmentbased on the ARM embedded, lead the transplanting of the loader U-Boot, tailor andcustomize the em-bedded Linux kernel and transplant the file systems and design the driversand applications.3. The electromagnetic compatibility and the reliability design of traffic signal controller,studied in two aspects, hardware anti-jamming and anti-jamming software technology.4. Prototype quality testing. After the laboratoty tests, the design of prototype in theMinistry of public security Traffic Management Research insititute completed inspection andqualification. Show that the subject design is reasonable and effective.The multi-phase intelligent traffic signal controller designed in this paper, in line withChina’s future development direction of the traffic signal control, and can provide a referencefor the traffic signal controllers’ research and design.
