Today, economy improved rapidly and ship makers face the more flinty challenge. As the size of ship is larger and larger, how to make the low cost and high performance large ship is a problem of all ship designers to solve, especially in structure design . For shipyard, make design improvement based on mother ship can reduce design time effectively.The dissertation is to optimize a 159000DWT oil tanker that BOHAI shipyard fabricated for COSCO based on LR rules and following investigation to be carried out:Calculate the longitudinal bending strength and shear force strength and make design improvement for hull structure ;Optimized the structure in cargo oil area;FEM calculation of 3 cargo holds, add PMA, consider ice reinforcement and evaluate the steel weight after design improvement;Fatigue strength assessment of hull structure;Ship vibration assessment.As the main facility for carrying oil in sea, large oil tanker has complex structures and need a lot of steel. So make design improvement has significance to reduce the steel quantity and improve the design level.
