Industrial CT(Computerized Tomography) is the advanced non-destructive testing technology that can measure and analysis the internal structure and shape of product compared with measurement method, laser scanning and layer scan method. So it has broad application on reverse engineering. At present, it demands to develop special modeling software for research of reverse 3D CAD modeling based on industrial CT sectional images, that involves complex reconstruction algorithm and long development cycle. So the research of reverse 3D CAD modeling based on industrial CT sectional images should decrease complex degree and shorten development cycle. Mainly works of the paper as fellows:The technology of reverse 3D CAD modeling based on industrial CT sectional images was researched. Volume data was obtained after a series of Industrial CT sectional images are input by VTK. The Gaussian filter were used to filter the noise. The threshold of iso-surface was set and surface model of product was build based on MC and contour tiling, which was analysis according to the reconstructed surface model and STL mesh model in detail. To realize the real-time interactive rendering, vertex removed algorithm and quadric error metric were used to simplify mesh of surface model and Laplacian smoothing and window Sinc function interpolation smoothing did to optimize surface mesh. At last, the STL format file was generated from surface model and input 3D CAD software-UG to construct solid model of product. The 3D CAD solid model can be used in manufacturing and redesigning directly.The generation method of STL format file in reverse 3D CAD modeling based on industrial CT sectional images was developed to realize its modeling function and display function by VTK\, OOP technology and C++ program language under the Windows XP operating system and Visual Studio 6.0 development environment. Mass experiments and the third testing indicate the system has good stability.
