With the fast growth of Chinese economy, increasing amounts of traffic make bridges burden more and more. In combination with problems of design,construction and durability, a lot of bridges have been damaged and their carrying capacity have been worsen too much to operate normally, which should be strengthened and rebuilt as soon as possible. In face of this situation, complete detection of existing bridges should be carried out for safety evaluation and further measurements should be conducted according to the detection results.Taking JiNing GuangHe bridge as an example,the detection, evaluation and rebuilding of bridge are discussed in this paper, the main points as following:1.To introduce the existing methods of safety evaluation of bridges. Basic thoery and characteristic of them are discussed in details and significance of safety evaluation are expounded gradually.2.Visual examination and static load test of JiNing GuangHe bridge are conducted,and the variation of strain and deflection are analysed comprehensively.The results of tests are compared with the limits of corresponding bridge design codes, load testing codes and the theoretical values,in order to provide the basis for the study of the carrying capacity of the similar dimensioning bridges.3.JiNing GuangHe bridge is rebuilt according to the conclusion of safety evaluation.A new construction method of utilizing old pile is put forward,which reduce the cost and time of project.
