With the development of country economy, more and more super high buildings are being built. While its beauties attract the attention of the people and they provide sufficient and comfort space to us, it is very important to evaluate and insure its safety during severe earthquake. Based on the design experience and research of super high structures, the research method for the high structures during severe earthquake was studied. There are two methods to analyze the structure during severe earthquake, one is static nonlinear analysis (push-over) and the other is dynamic nonlinear analysis (time history) method. Push-over analysis method not only avoid the problem with trivial detail of older nonlinear dynamical analysis method but also gives attention to the nonlinear capability of the components in a structure. The result of the method is relatively accurate. Now, push-over method is receiving more and more attention by its usable strong merit. And it was already included in Code for Seismic Design of Buildings (CSDB) as a method to check the elastic-plasticity distortion of structure. It is illustrated in this paper firstly the development and present situation of static elastic-plasticity analysis and then its usage , theory background and the scope of application is discussed, and the advantages and disadvantages of static elastic-plasticity analysis are introduced . Then several kinds of representative static elastic-plasticity analysis method were introduced. Lastly, Wuhan ShiMao JinXiu ChangJiang A2 Block Building 1 unit 1-3 were taken as an example . Comparison between two typical load patterns on a RC building using push-over analysis was undertaken, and floor displacement error, displacement error between floors as well as plastic hinge's development and so on are compared . It is intended by the author to offer reference to the application of push-over analysis in engineering practicality through this paper.
