Obviously,China is experiencing a rapid urbanization now. The rapid increasing of urban population makes shortage of the city resources, which during a high intensity using and development. Considering the fierce development of our economy, the shortages will be durative in the future: wider the city edge becomes, more farmland ruined for the expansion, more city land disappear for the parking facilities which satisfy the increasing of traffic demand in the central areas. To solve the conflict, the Shared Parking strategy under the Compact City theory is proposed.Firstly, the parking policies in some advanced countries such as the USA and Japan are reviewed, the advantages and disadvantages of each policy are showed. Then in sequence there is close relationship between the changing of the USA parking policies and the changing of modern urban planning thought. A conclusion is given: the parking policies were adapted to the urban planning thought and developing mode, great thought bring sustainable development.Secondly, the parking policies and present situation is proposed, there are some problems such as the unequilibrium of parking supply and demand. After that, the Compact City theory which is popular in Europe and American is suggested; the background and the basic thought of it and its adoption in China urban planning are all expatiated.Thirdly,based on the advanced parking policies in the USA and the present parking situation of China, a shared parking strategy in urban central areas which minimize the parking land amount is proposed. Then its concept, advantages, modes to carry out are also mentioned in the following text, and its influents on the neighborhoods, the participants and the society.At last, there is an adoption analysis of the shared parking strategy under China land management and parking management mode. The paper ended with a shared parking example which showed powerful advantages on decreasing the parking land amount on a new-build spot in a development area.
