In modern power industry, economical and effective supervision has been the most important task for supplying consumers electric power of high quality and reliability. The special robot in power system has better and wider development, following the steady improvement of Modern Communication Technology,Robot Control Technology,Artificial Intelligence and Multimedia Technology. This paper presents a remote-control and fixed-orbit robot which is able to supervise and inspect electric equipment in a distance in order to solve more problems including those neglected by workers' supervision. The audio and video processing systems form the central control system, and directly affects the quality of real-time man-machine communication in this special robot.The special robot used in power system has become a focused subject in many countries recently, so firstly this paper introduces the research level of this robot home and abroad. Then the foundational theories used in this robot system are discussed. On the base of these issues above, the design of a remote control and fixed-orbit inspecting robot is presented.The design of the audio and video processing systems is a key point of this project. CPLD/FPGA (Complex Programmable Logic Devices/ Field Programmable Gate Array),VHDL(Very-High-Speed Integrated Circuit Hardware Description Language),Quartusâ…¡,Optical communication technology and top-to-bottom design method are adopted to make the audio processing system effective and available. Meanwhile, the video processing system is realized by CIMT(Conditional Invert Master Transition) coding method,PECL interface and PCI bus technology.Then the design of robot's orbit,the method of energy supply and drive are put forward, while the whole design idea of this special robot is described.At last, conclusions and expectations are presented. It is significant to do the research of this special robot in power system. And the basic technology in this project could be easily spread into many other areas.
