With the rapid development of higher education, the social is paying more attention on the construction of colleges and universities' landscape. Among the campus landscape, plants landscape is a very important part of it. The design of plants landscape is a comprehensive substance of many courses, such as aesthetics, ecology, culturology, economic development and so on. It is not only an action of science, but also an active of culture. Colleges and universities is the best embody of this idea for it's the place to impart knowledge and educate people. With the further construction of the colleges and universities' campus landscape, people s impatient to find a suitable theories and methods for the design of the campus plants landscape.This thesis is conceratrated on the research and discussion of the plant design in some representative university which have long history and attaching importance to the influence of the features of plant design and the conditions of natural culture on plant design, according to the literatures and the conditions on the spots. Through the comparison of the researches about the universities in the two cities, combining the reason of its formation and the future trend, it also expatiated some problems that existed in the field of plant design. The research might have some referential effect to the practice of the plant design of the universities in the two cities; and offered a relative research basis and different thoughts and methods for plant design in different areas.The result of the plant design research in Changsha and Kunming shows: The wide-leaf green forest scenery matching with the falling-leaf forest scenery is an main characteristic in the universities campus in Kunming, which have rich kinds of plants and many species of drought enduring plants and hard plants were supplied in order to gain one circumstance which has hierarchical structure and remarkable aspect change. The characteristics of the universities in Changsha is the the evergreen trees matching with the deciduous trees and shade tolerance bushes were broadly were put to use and the species of drought enduring plants and hygrophilous plants were richly used, in order to gain one planting growing circumstance which have good plant community and an strong adaptive capacity of the differences in temperature. And proposes that the Kunming universities plant landscaping to suggest: riches community's fineness, strengthens the campus characteristic and the style, the fill aquatic plant landscaping the blank, pays attention to the plant landscaping in student quarters, to form specially a kind of garden; Changsha universities plant landscaping to suggest: the enhancement species' multiplicity, forms the characteristic roadside trees, strengthen the aquatic plant landscaping, strengthen to the user behavior research, pays attention to the plant landscaping in student quarters, the retention native vegetation.
