Research On Design Of Urban Waterfront

Since the 50's and 60's of 20 century, in many places in the world, especially Europe and the United States, urban waterfront areas were re-development and made remarkable achievements. In recent years, many cities in China also began to develope the waterfront areas. Some waterfront development projects have also adopted international resourse and had caused great repercussions.However, at this stage of China's urban waterfront, city planning departments and developers companies over pursuit the development and utilization of land and construction. And they don't attach importance to the construction of waterfront. Waterfront city ignored the protection of the environment. Water landscape building, just stay in a low level of the phenomenon, not forming a unique waterfront city's image and landscape. The analysis and research explore the landscape planning and design methods on the waterfront. And it makes a useful guide and reference to urban waterfront development and construction.First of all, this paper reviews the basic concepts and historical process of urban waterfront planning. It introduces waterfront districts design ideas, methods and processes both in domestic and international cities. It sums up a few guiding of the waterfront environment and the principles and methods about design. Secondly, it discusses relevant theory of waterfront development. These important theories of urban waterfront development and construction are very worthy. Finally, based on the analysis above, it discusses the planning and the future of Suzhou Riverside direction.Because of limiting on the knowledge structure and lacking practical experience, the papers will inevitably be less considerate. There are many issues worthy of further deep exploration and studying. For example, deep-level theoretical research on waterfront development, the interaction between Suzhou Riverside and Huangpu riverside, specific tourism projects settings of Suzhou Riverside. These questions are worthy of in-depth study and careful consideration. Hopefully, this can play a role of arousing further research of urban waterfront landscape.
