As compare with the other methods of slope stability, the superiority of the strength reduction method of slope stability analysis is obvious, it can reflect slope stress field and the process of slope failure, it can get the factor of safety and the most dangerous slip face without any assumption, and it can get the factors of safety with different potential slip faces. Because of these advantages the strength reduction method has become a fascinating study field in slope stability analysis. However, this method has not been developed in practice. The hot spot issue is studied in the thesis. The content of this paper mainly includes following five parts.(1) At first, the thesis introduction the basic idea, research advances and existing problem of slope stability analysis.(2) Present iteration steps-shifted as safety criteria of slope. The feasibility of the safety criteria is proved by three typical examples and contrast with three other classifier safety criteria.(3) Local strength reduction method is studied in the thesis, the results show that the method has more advantages in severing the problem of slope that contains several dangerous slip surfaces.(4) The stability analysis of the slope at left abutment of Jingpin first stage hydropower station in the conditions before and after the excavation,and the reinforced condition has been done through the method of slope stability analysis based on strength reduction method. Feasibility of the method in this thesis used in the actual projects and three dimensional area is discussed.
