Retractable roof structure is a new type of structure in which the roof structure is divided into several movable and fixed elements, using of appropriate mechanism in accordance with the expected trajectory of movable elements to achieve the object of opening. Because of its unique characteristics, compared with the traditional structure, the retractable roof structure exists motion state. The more complex movable ways are, the greater probability of collision happens. It is to develop rational and efficient energy absorption devices by studying the aspects of large complex retractable roof structure such as collision mechanism, energy consumption theory and the collision response of the structure members.Metal pipe with different thickness and different direction of holes under axial or radial impact was studied by use of ANSYS/LS DYNA, it was to compare the deformation pattern, size of wallop and energy-absorption. Take the Alexander model, average compression load was caculated in axial compression process and the value is slightly lower than the finite element analysis result. With the critical buckling impulse and critical speed theory, energy absorption characteristic of metal pipe under radial impact was sdudied. The collision system of large retractable roof structure is generally divided into two categories: the collision of movable elements themselves and the collision of movable elements with fixed elements. Take the Ocean Dome in Japan for example, members'internal force were validated by use of ANSYS. With the speed v=10m/min, response characteristic between two movable elements was studied using ANSYS / LS DYNA. Combined with passive protection method, metal pipes in the size of 250×4mm and 250×2mm were installed on the interface of the net first quarters. It was compared between the analysis result with energy-consuming components and without energy-consuming components and made qualitative conclusions.
