| Watt-hour meters are important instruments in electric power networks playing an indis-pensable role in many systems such as power measurement and management, electric load monitoring and control, remote meter reading and billing, power distribution automation and power-supply reliability. However, it is difficult to construct an unified network with the me-ters because they are designed based on different communication protocols and managed by different departments. At present, almost all power companies are seeking for the way to uni-fy the communication protocol in the network, but amendments and additions to the tradition-al protocols prevent the progress. Interoperability communication protocols are still not available. With the research of DLMS/COSEM specification and multifunctional watt-hour meters, the application of to multifunction watt-hour meter base on interoperability communication protocol DLMS/COSEM is discussed by means of computer science, electronic and commu-nication technology.First of all, the characteristics and limitations of communication protocols are analyzed. Secondly, the communication protocol with interoperability DLMS/COSEM, presented by IEC, is proposed to contracture unified networks. Finally, the measurement and management of the multifunction watt-hour meter are realized with a single MCU, which is prior to tradi-tional designs with two MCUs, one for managing and another for measuring. By using native tri-phase measuring chip, cost is reduced greatly and measuring accuracy is ensured. Moreo-ver, the error over-tolerance of the tri-phase measuring chips when load varying excessively is avoided.Based on the above researches, a new watt-hour meter with interoperability is developed, which is acknowledged by relevant tests from authority institutions. It shows that the design is effective and feasible. The research will accelerate the application of the communication pro-tocol with interoperability in China. |
