With the exploration of the ocean resources and the research on the marine environment, the underwater devices have been widely used. Reliable recovery of these devices has become a serious problem. Moreover, the fast development of the underwater communication techniques has made underwater acoustic remote controlling systems practical, therefore underwater acoustic releasers emerges as the times require.The typical classification of the releasers and the development of corresponding researches home and abroad are introduced. The working principles and the application situation of three types of releasers are explained, which refer to those with cables, those without cables and those with timepieces. The executive mechanical principles are described in details and the characteristics are compared among the ablated ones, the dynamited ones, the cutting cable ones and the electromotor driving ones.The underwater acoustic theories needed in the design of the underwater acoustic releasers are discussed in this paper, including the signal propagation, environmental noise field and the affection of the sound channels. The influence of transmission loss within the working frequency of the system is estimated according to the empirical formulas, the systematic parameters in the typical noise field are calculated and the multi-path problem is also analyzed and discussed.The ideology and the principles in the design of the hardware of the remote controlling underwater acoustic releasers are explained in detail. The hardware platform of low-power consumption is designed with the low-power consumption MCU (Microprogrammed Control Unit) as the hardware core. The functional modules of the hardware circuits, including the conditioning, sampling and processing of the signals are given as well as the releasing actions in executive machines. The design methods of the software systems are introduced, the working time sequencing and the procedures of the outside devices of the MCU are given and the processing, judging and the controlling of the signals are realized through the cooperation of the outside devices and the modules. The reliable recovery of the underwater devices by the underwater acoustic releasers in emergency is realized through the timing module of hardware coupled with the controlling programs.
