State monitoring and fault diagnosis deeply affect the safety, reliability and economy of nuclear power plants. Thus, it is essential to develop the advanced fault diagnosis system for nuclear power plants.The major work in this thesis is to design and implement the Reactor Coolant System Distributed Fault Diagnosis System (RCSDFDS). On the base of analysis for the structure and fault characteristics of the reactor coolant system, the distributed fault diagnosis strategy was proposed. The whole diagnosis task was partitioned into five parts and each part had its own monitoring methods and diagnosis methods. The monitoring methods included pipe method, trend method and static model method. If an abnormity was detected by the state monitoring unit, the fault diagnosis unit would be sprung. Every part diagnosed the local fault and then combination part synthesized the first result of the five parts. Finally, the final diagnostic results were achieved.The RCSDFDS was verified on the simulator. The RCSDFDS can identify abnormality and faults timely and display the result on the human-machine interface. The results prove that distributed fault diagnostic strategy is feasible, and especially effective on multiple faults. However, the RCSDFDS need be enriched further.
