When a ship is sailing in waves, the resistance will increase and the efficiency of the propeller will decrease due to intervene of the environment. So in point of the performance design, it is necessary and essential to analyze the propulsive performance of ships in the wave. And the hydrodynamic performance of the propeller is a very important part of it. The general CFD software FLUENT has been used to calculate the hydrodynamic performance of propeller in linear regular waves by referring to several articles and material involved.First, the appropriate turbulence model has been studied when trying to simulate the characteristic of the flow of the propeller in still water. The method is to calculate the hydrodynamic performance of the same propeller by different turbulence models, compared with the result of the experiment, and draw the conclusion that the RSM turbulence model is recommended as an appropriate model when dealing with propeller. Then the current numerical wave-generating method was studied, and the mini-amplitude regular waves were generated by a numerical wave-generating method in which its boundary condition is defined by the users' defined function (UDF).The last part is an analysis of the hydrodynamic performance of propeller in wave. The method is to simplify the process by dividing it into heaving due to the wave and intervene of diffraction of the wave. The heaving process has been simulated by combining the technique of dynamic mesh and sliding mesh and the result has been compared with the result of a program. The thesis also analyzed the difficulty of modeling and meshing when trying to simulate the intervene of the diffraction of the wave.In a word, the hydrodynamic performance of propeller in linear regular wave has been analyzed, and the result of the heaving process can provide the reference and guides to application of engineering.
