Oceanic reverberation has attracted a great attention in the ocean research. Shallow reverberation is mainly caused by the bottom scattering. The sea bottom scattering coefficient is one of the basic physical quantities for characterizing the bottom scattering, so the study on how to get the sea bottom scattering coefficient has an important meaning.First of all, a 3-D scattering model is introduced in this paper. According to this model, the relationship curves of the scattering strength and the incident grazing angle the scattering grazing angle the scattering azimuth angle or the frequency are computed. The ocean bottom scattering coefficient will be measured by T-type array, so the relational expressions of output voltage of T-type multiplicative arrays and a single array element and the bottom scattering coefficient are derived. Next a seafloor reverberation simulation method when the bottom scattering coefficient is assumed to be known is introduced, and the sea bottom scattering coefficient can be inverse calculated. Then a water tank experiment is introduced, including experiment environment, experiment instruments, experiment setting, method of getting and processing the experimental data. The results of processing the simulating and experimental signals indicate this method is feasible. Compare the result of processing to that of computing based on the scattering model. Finally, the programmes of measuring and computing are designed by GUI.
