As be a high pressure gas discharge lamp, Xeon short-orc Lamp has been popular in the market of automotive lamp ,due to its good color rendering, high luminous efficacy which has exceeded the performance of conventional Halogen headlamps, so the research of the electronic ballast for Xeon lamp has attracted more focus. Due to the complicated start-up characteristic, digital control seems more suitable and better in the control of Xeon-lamp in comparison with analog control.In the first Chapter introduces the history of the development of automotive lamp. The brief analysis of the difficulties of electronic ballast for automotive lamp has been given. Through pointing out the actuality of the electronic ballast, we talk about the feasibility and essential of the subject combine the trend of the development.Chapter II provides the basic circuit structure of Xeon-lamp at first. Considering the importance of first DC-DC stage, several circuits which own the same function at present are discussed deeply. Some representative circuits of igniter is provided. At the end of this chapter gives the advantage of digital control mode.Chapter III gives a detailed design process for automotive headlamp electronic ballast. Due to its main technology guideline, the design course of main circuit is discussed deeply. Moreover, the loss and the efficiency of the main circuit is also provided. Following the design of igniter of single stage, the principle of analogy-digital mode, control circuits is introduced. According to the experiment results, the design process is well confirmed.Chapter IV the startup characteristic of the high-intensity-discharge lamp is interpreted deeply, no-flick control methods have been provided for MHD and Xeon lamp according to the characteristic of them separately. Moreover, it introduces the characteristic of constant power control currently. At last, a novel constant power control has been provided. These control methods are all verified by the experiment results.
