In order to meet China's lunar exploration program and the future need of deep space exploration, the author of this article does some basis research on a new type of ultrasonic driller which can obtain samples from outer planet .The driller has an unique structure, mainly consists of three parts:an ultrasonic transducer,a free mass and a drill stem. The author did some research on the characteristics about the structure of the driller and its drilling mechanism on the basis of the foreign reference. The author designed this new type of ultrasonic driller, processed a prototype of driller, and did a series of experimental studies. All of this could laid a solid foundation for further study of ultrasonic driller.The main work accomplished in this dissertation is summarized as follows:Outlining the development of ultrasonic drilling technology and its application in some related field, proposed the sense, content and objective of this research project.Detailed account of the failure mechanism (fatigue damage) to the drilled medium, and then proposed the basic structure of the driller.Completed the dynamic simulation of the ultrasonic driller and its drilling simulation.Developing a prototype of driller by optimization design of the model.Doing a large number of experimental drilling for many brittleness media, basically achieved the expected results.
