Mass Customization and project-based manufacturing are all belong to the production mode which is characterized by manufacturing to order. Because of the introducing of customer requirement, there are features of random order, various product types and complex product structure, flexible production flow and etc. in such production mode and lead a complicated production management environment. As fundamental data of production management, time quota sustains different aspects of production system. However, it is inadequate in the research of time quota method, especially in the order-orientated production. The application of traditional method is very limited in the customization production, it is hard to reach the balance of time quota efficiency and accuracy. Series problems have been raised because of the defect of time quota job in the customization enterprise, such as made production planning difficult and fluctuant, capacity cannot been calculated, production cost cannot been estimated and controlled, due time cannot been guaranteed and etc. All those problems will hinder the promotion of customization production management. It is essential to build a time quota method which is fitted for the order-orientated production mode.A time quota method, Group Module Method (GMM), has been established in this paper. GMM is developed under the fundamental research of order-orientated production mode and traditional time quota methods, and integrate the ideology of group technology and module method. The GMM method prototype has been developed firstly by researching the situation of assemble to order, which is the breakthrough-point of the new method establishment. In the prototype, Man-hour Module System has been established by referencing to part family establishment rule, man-hour data has been measured in the unit of each man-hour module, and the time quota has been calculated by multiplying Man-hour Matrix and Describe Matrix. Then the following research has been focused on the development of GMMâ…¡which is the extended technique set of GMM prototype. GMMâ…¡introduces each step of prototype by new techniques to cope with the probable limitation of the prototype when it is faced into high-level customization production: Factor correlation analysis has been introduced in Man-hour Module System establishment, parameter estimation has been applied to formulate the man-hour of each Man-hour Module, and integrated evaluation methods have been suggested in formulating the Describe Matrix of product. The integration of GMM prototype and GMMâ…¡constructs the whole content system of GMM which is a new time quota method fit for the environment of customization production mode.At the end, this new method has been applied to customization enterprise. First, GMM prototype has been applied to a switchgear production factory which is a typical assemble-to-order enterprise. During the prototype applying process, 7 Man-hour Modules and 1 Virtual Man-hour Module has been developed according to structure-based rule, the man-hour of different switchgears has been gained successfully by multiple Man-hour Matrix and Describe Matrix and the feasibility of GMM prototype has been proved. Then the GMMâ…¡has been applied to the die debugging in a stamping die manufacturing factory which represents the production type of high-level customization. According to the GMMâ…¡technique series, Man-hour Modules have been constructed by different combination of stamping type and the size of die, the man-hour intervals of each Man-hour Module has been calculated, and the man-hour of different die debugging has been gained. The applicability of GMMâ…¡under the high-level customization production environment has been verified.
