With the development of social economy, the size of cities in China has been changing drastically, and citizens'demands of transportation are increasing relatively. Therefore, that brings the contradiction between supply and demand of transportations, and leads more traffic congestions, disorders and accidents, especially in plane intersections. Based on the situation that mixed traffic flows in China, the method considering the mixed traffic to optimize the space-time resources in intersections, should reduce the interferences among pedestrians, non-motorized and motor vehicles. In the paper, different types of traffic flows will be analyzed respectively, and the findings will be as the foundation to study the timing method of optimizing the space-time resources in intersections.A prerequisite for this study is mixed traffic flows. Considering the various functional features of different traffic flows, several setting methods for motor vehicles through intersections were shown, such as enter lane, exit lane and gradual changing lane. According to the ranks of crossing roads, the enter lane setting method of non-motorized vehicles was indicated. Pedestrians waiting section was put forward by applying phase sequence arrangement to use the idle time resources. Considering the specific circumstances of roundabouts, some cuts would be set at center islands when requiring.By using the traffic lights and cuts together, the straight lanes which contain large flows would be set as fast lanes. Based on those settings, diversion facilities and pedestrian crossing facilities could be set to enhance the safety of pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles while crossing intersections. Moreover, the waiting area for left turning vehicles could be set by utilizing the spare space of intersections. And thus, the distance of left turning vehicles crossing the intersection would be shorten, and space resources would be used more rationally in this case.Based on the features of our country's plane intersections, the applicability of different assorted methods have been researched respectively. According to specific situations of different intersections, the method of deciding phase sequence was discussed. And the arithmetic of optimization was stated by referring the present overseas study results and the features of our country's transportations. In terms of users'perspectives, Service Performance Assessment System was used to appraise the performance of applied methods. By using the dimensions of operating efficiency and safety, research indicators were picked out. The result of assessment could be got with using the Hierarchy Analysis finally.At the end of the paper, a specific case was shown how to optimize its situation by using the referred methods. The practicability of optimizing the space-time resources in intersections could be reflected by comparing with the service performance assessments between the past and optimized situations.
