Power industry is basic and public industry, and it is production material as well as life material at the same time. it is very important to the progress of society and the development of production and improvement of living standards. Thus it abstracts lots of attentions. With the rapid development of China's national economy, the power industry has also been developed quickly. At present, the power grid enterprises face two major problems: First, how to ensure the operational safety and stability of the cross-regional power grids and the local ones; Second, based on the safe operation of power grids, how to make it economical and reasonable, and to reduce the power loss during the grids'operation and the production cost of power grid enterprises.Line loss rate of power grids is a comprehensive economic and technical indicator which can reflect the power supply enterprise planning and design, production technology, and the management level. Reduce line loss rate is to improve the economic efficiency of enterprises under the cost of production unchanged in the enterprise, and it is of great significance. Meanwhile, reducing line loss is the key point in the country's "11th Five-Year Plan" as to achievement of 20 percent reduction and also an important part of the state appraisal.Power loss covers a very wide network including power generation, supply, transformation and utilization which are closely linked. So line loss statistics, calculation and analysis involve so many links including human factors that the traditional manual calculation has been unable to meet the requirements of the modern enterprise management.On the other hand, the power system has established SCADA system, power energy billing system which makes fast and accurate access to the power system operating parameters possible, and the conditions of developing management of practical line loss based on these real-time data has been mature.The objective of this paper is to study the methods of real-time calculation of the power network in detail and to explain the calculation conditions, characteristics as well as the methods of real-time grid line loss, especially to analyze and present the cases incomplete data and bad data in the collection when calculating the real-time line loss.The work primary coverage is as follows:1. Introduce the common methods of grid line loss calculation and their shortcomings, and propose the real-time based grid line loss calculation method and analyze its advantages, rapidity and effectiveness, and give an example to verify the correctness of the method.2. Based on the real-time grid line loss calculation method, with the problems of data integrity and the bad data in the collections, we utilize an effective state estimation method, and focus on the requirements of real-time algorithm.3. Finally, with IEEE-14 nodes, we can prove that the line loss calculation methodis feasible.
