The main components of suspension bridge which endure living and dead loads are cable, link and tower.The tower should be able to bear the total loads which incloud weight of the bridge, the weight of the living loads on it, and the wind load. Besides the basic analysis on the strength and stiffness, it is necessary for us to do the analysis on the stability. This paper focus on the stability of the tower of the Humen bridge in Zhujiang river. The working conditions of stability analysis are sorted in three kinds, including the building process, the operation process and the process in the effect of both vehicle loads and wind loads.The theoretic model of the critical condition is made, and the analysis on the stability of the tower is solved by the Ansys software. The nonlinear analysis on the stability of the complicated structure is made by FEM method. The critical pressures of the tower in the three kinds of working conditions and the relationship between the effecting mode of the loads and the stability of the tower are presented. And they are proved by the result of the theoretic analysis model.;During the process of structural design, there are a great number of affect factors which are uncertain or random. These factors are usually neglected or taken into account by using a relatively conservative hypothesis in the process of traditional certain analysis. For example, we may introduce an experiential safety factor. However, these uncertain factors will result in uneconomical designs sometimes.This paper have the analysis on the reliability of the tower structure on the facet of stability, and the study was based on the result of the stability analysis .The reliability analysis consider the vehicle loads,wind loads and the lateral pull of the cables caused by the deformation of the bridge structure.The analysis on the reliability of the tower structure on the facet of stability are done.The reliability result and the main factors are presented,and the result also proves the reliability of the Humen bridge.According to the lots of research on the stability analysis and the analysis of reliability,the idea of the optimization design of the structure of the tower are mentioned.
