In recent years, the world shipbuilding industry is in the rapid development of the golden era,it has driven China's shipbuilding industry to develop quickly, the shipbuilding industry of our country is facing an unprecedented opportunity for the development.how to take the opportunity and further improve the level of ship design, which are the key factors of China's shipbuilding industry development now. In order to adapt the development trend of modern ship design, this thesis puts forward a method of the marine main engine selection which is based on 3-D hull. The purpose of this method is to improve the efficiency of the ship design, shorten the design cycle, retrench the economic cost and so as to meet the new requirements of the shipbuilding industry development.Firstly, this thesis use the ship "COSBRIGHT LAKE" as a example to build a model of the 3-D hull, analyze the resistance of the 3-D hull with ship design software, and calculate the power needed at the set speed according to the hull performance parameters, so as to figure out the rated power the main engine needs accurately and fast. Compared with conventional methods, this method is more convenient, more efficient and much nearer to the actual results, so it can avoid the deviation caused by the subjective experience, and retrench the construction cost for the ship owner.Secondly, building the assessment model of the main engine selection with the Fuzzy-level comprehensive evaluation. The main engine selection concerns a lot of complex factors. The main engine selection was usually according to the designer's experience and preference before, but the decision made may not be the most appropriated and best. This paper combines the fuzzy mathematics and AHP together, and uses them to the decision of main engine selection. The method avoids the impact of subjective factors and improves the decision-making level. At the same time, it retrenches the ships economic and operating costs effectively. Finally, by referring to some giant oil tanker, this paper conducts verification for the applicability of the main engine selection assessment model. The result of the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation indicates that the engine selected according to this model has exactly the same result with the actual engine which was used in the ship, so it proves the assessment model built in this paper has the practical value. The proposed research method in this paper provides the ship designer with the reference to the theory of value. Besides, it has the practical significance to the ship owner for their investment decision-making.
