As a kind of position sensor, salient-rotor-variable-reluctance resolver can be widely used in many fields and is to be the tendency of reslover for its mechanical firmness and reliability, in addition to its compactness and simpleness in structure with no compensating winding or tooth slope. At present, the design of salient-rotor-variable-reluctance resolver, especially the rotor shape which decides the performance of the resolver, depends almost on the experience of the designer, on the other hand, the facture technics and mounting factor influence the precision of resolver heavily. To solve these problems, finite element method (FEM) is adopted to optimize the structure parameter, especially the rotor shape coefficient, and design principles of different pole pairs and sizes were achieved. This provides a helpful data evidence for resolver designs and is therefore of important meaning in practical engineering. With the help of FEM software, the technics factor, mainly the non-symmetry of coil position which directly influences performance of the resolver was analyzed, the compensating effect among coils of the same phase in multi-poles resolver was demonstrated, the influence of mounting factors including eccentricity and incline in two structures was compared to emphasize the necessity of two- segment structure in one pole-pair resolver.Measurements of the resolvers were carried out and some mathematical methods were utilized to analyze the obtained data, which verified that the finite element analysis was correct.
