This Paper discourses utilizing the intensive water withdrawal method to handle the saturated soft sandy clay, by introducing the practical using of the intensive water withdrawal and dynamic compaction method. Application of this method in the project shows good technical and economic effects.Because of its simple equipment and operating technology, dynamic compaction method gains attention from the field of engineering all over the world. In the treatment of the foundation of saturated soft sandy clay, the most important thing is to clear up the saturated water and the pore water pressure, but the traditional dynamic consolidation theory, draining by the soil fissures caused by the tamping energy, can hardly work in silty soil or mucky soil with very high water content.The treatment of the saturated soft sandy clay by intensive water withdrawal and dynamic compaction method and engineering practice are discussed in this paper through the project of Jingtang Port Coal Berth. Through our study, we find that the vacuum pumping is beneficial to the reduction and dissipation of the pore water pressure. The good effect of intensive water withdrawal system is also verified through experiments.The theory and construction technology of the intensive water withdrawal and dynamic compaction method are discussed in detail. Theoretically speaking, dynamic compaction system has its own mechanism, and the intensive water withdrawal system may take effect only along with the dynamic compaction system. As far as technique is concerned, intensive water withdrawal and dynamic compaction method uses both the intensive water withdrawal system and the dynamic compaction system to handle the foundation. This paper discourses the mechanism of the intensive water withdrawal and dynamic compaction, and crystallizes the factors that will influence this method.The design and construction parameters of the intensive water withdrawal and dynamic compaction method will be determined only by experiment. The key parameters that influence the construction quality can't be determined from the former parameters because of the complicated geological condition in the engineering site. This paper introduces the principle of determining the design parameters through the practical construction, adjusts the design parameters according to the typical construction, determines the construction parameters, and makes a assessment of the construction technology and the effect examination. From the result of the examination, the method is used successfully in the project. The paper sums up some points about the practical application at last.In a word, the method extends the applicability of dynamic compaction method. Further popularizing of this method in practical projects will lead dynamic compaction method to a new stage.
