HV transmission lines take charge in transporting electrical energy in power system; meanwhile the faults mostly happen on them. The HV transmission lines are important for the security of the power system. So quickly cutting the fault line after the fault can greatly lessen the time needed for patrolling line and quicken the power restoration. It is significantly important to the secure and economic of power system.At first, this paper analyzes the influence of kinds of possible components based on the distributing parameter model; summarizes the algorithms of short window, find out the strongpoint and shortages of the digital filtering algorithms. Then, studies the design methods of the Finite Impulse Response, especially the window function, proposes a new fast filtering algorithm that combines digital filter designed by window function and half-cycle discrete Fourier .ATP simulation shows that: this algorithm has the features of fast response and good filtering. When applied to HV transmission line, the new algorithm can improve the protection's performance.
