With great developments in modern mechanics, computational mathematics and computer technology with hardware and software technique, finite element analysis (FEA) has made rapid progress in both theory and computational technology. More and more general-purpose and specialized programs have been developed in use. In this paper, FEA and its higher handlers are studied about vibration analysis, structural interpreting and flow process in dealing with complex assembly. Finally measures are given to improve the mechanism's function. The fundamentals about FEA are summed up to resolve numerical computation of eigenvalues and modal response. Furthermore, the functions of MSC.Patran/Nastran and ANSYS are illustrated while contrasting their present state and perspective. The flow sheet is presented in order to analyze large-scale complex mechanism in general pattern, and with it the entity is disintegrated into several blocks using higher handlers such as MPC (Multi-Point Constraint) and super-element to treat. During simulation process via MSC.Patran/Nastran and ANSYS software, the inherent modals of the sprocket-chain box are shown in exploded view at intervals of one step. The Nastran resolver works more efficient than the ANSYS resolver in view of comparing the modes and frequencies. Two ameliorations are discussed based on the simulation results. Firstly, the walls thickness is increased from 2.5mm to 4mm, secondly, a strengthening rib is added to the box. The rib seems to be more feasible and economic because of the jarless modes and the less frequencies. The analysis method and dealing handler got in this paper is to be an important path of direction to the engineering analysis of complex assembly, furthermore, it will enrich and widen the study in the field of simulation of large-scale mechanism.
