Aiming at the shortcomings of traditional methods used for design of cushioning package, this paper researched in the energy absorption diagram method and suggested it could be applied in design of cushioning package. The paper studied two types of design problems- material known or unknown, and the algorithm flows of those two problems based on the energy absorption diagram method. Then the system was developed by using the platform of Visual C++ 6.0 , Access database and the technique of ODBC.First, the system demand, modules of the system and the functions of every module were analyzed. Then the system was designed particularly, including design of optimization algorithm and flow, design of function modules, design of system database and the total system flow. Finally, the application was developed with the developing environment of Visual C++ and some examples were computed with the final system. The results coincided with the expected that proved the reliability of the system. This system had seven function modules and had realized the functions as follows:1.Build the project and manage design characters .Enter quality, size, fragilityand other product datas and then carry out optimum design according to theselected design type .Then test the design results by vibration proof, flexibilityproof,wriggle proof and others;2.Select the type of pad and design the structure of pad. Draw dimension chartof pad and draw a three-dimensional plan of cushioning package project withOpenGL. Then export the design scheme.3.Manage system database and draw the energy-absorption diagrams. The energy-absorption diagram method is applied in cushioning package design which not only offsets the deficiency of traditional design methods, makes the design results much more close to actual states but also provides an effective technique to optimize design of cushioning package, makes the design theory much more perfect.
