Higher engineering education is one important part of higher education, which aim is to cultivate higher engineering technology talent-people, meanwhile shows main effect on our nation's economic development and takes "practical" as its founding idea. Students from engineering colleges must face the practical issues, which is the main weakness in our nation's higher engineering education in nowadays. In modern engineering, facing the needs for talent-people in the 21st century, how to pay more attention to promote students' working practical ability to suit society, future occupation is becoming the urgent realistic problem for higher engineering colleges. Not only depending on the reform on practical detailed steps from the aspect of colleges' own way to realize practical ability training, but also the cooperation from all fields, it is a systematic engineering.This thesis does initial research on some problems of students' practical working ability in higher engineering education. Firstly, the thesis explains the background of training students' practical working ability and its reform's significance. Secondly, the thesis analyses basic concerned concepts. Thirdly, this thesis sums up foreign countries' higher engineering education's history and development tendency. Fourthly, on the basis of elaborating our nation's own history and current situation, the thesis analyses the reason of students' poor practical working ability along with the investigation report. In the fifth part, the thesis points out the total guiding idea to solve such problem, which is the basis of detailed ways to working on students' practical working ability in the sixth part of the thesis.
