At present, in Europe and USA almost every coach has been equipped with air suspension. About 85% trucks mounted air suspension. Trailers equipped with air suspension take up 80%. All these show air suspension become popular more and more. It is because that air suspension is good at anti-dive & anti-lift and anti-roll. Air suspension can control height of vehicle& improve ride comfort and lessen road's break and prevent overload. But air suspension develops so slowly that there is a long way to go in China. The heavy duty truck model is from some automobile limited company. According to the theory of multi-body dynamics, heavy truck's front suspension subsystem and full vehicle assembly are established. At first, parallel wheel travel test runs in Adams/car. During this course Adams/Insight executes suspension parameters optimization. Then a large of simulations has been carried out under the state standard. Ride and handling test results are recorded in order to evaluate vehicle's performance.Comparing with initial result, optimization result is perfect obviously. So the method can set suspension parameters reasonably. The virtual heavy duty truck's handling stability and ride performance accord with the physical prototype exactly. The simulation results provide important reference for evaluating, improving, optimizing the same type of vehicle. We have found out a scientific method for truck design and solved some difficult problem of kinematics and dynamics, improved the quality of design. Besides it saves a lot of money and time. We have done some useful research on truck design.
