With the market-oriented and globalization of world economy, the logistics distribution center which includes logistics, information flow and capital flow is also being developed rapidly. Storage/retrieval machine is an important facilities of the logistics distribution center, the most important issue to improve a logistics distribution center or automated warehouse operations is to improve storage/retrieval machine's performance, such as the smooth operation of high-speed performance, positioning accuracy, reliability work, noise. Domestic laneway-stacker product performance which compared with other countries'is still a significant gap, the technological development capability of various manufacturers also need more improvement.In this paper, a 3D model of parametric model of the double mast storage/retrieval machine has been modeled by using three-dimensional solid software, which based on the study of the structural characteristics of storage/retrieval machine. In addition to, 3D model was successfully transferred into finite element analysis software ANSYS and multi-body dynamics software ADAMS through researching the data transfer of software platform for the virtual prototyping. Then based on the finite element theory, the dynamic strength analysis and modal analysis of the steel frame structure, deflexion analysis of shuttle, transient analysis and fatigue analysis of loading platform of the storage/retrieval machine were counted. With the results of analysis, the structural strength and the fatigue life of the storage/retrieval machine was evaluated, and the results of reasons were discussed. The programme which improves the structure was brought forward basing on the mechanism. In addition to, based on the theory of multi-body dynamics, campaign process of the storage/retrieval was simulated, and the various factors impacting the storage/retrieval machine performance was analysed, the effective methods and strategies for the design of storage/retrieval machine were provided.Through the research and application of the virtual prototyping technology on the analysis of the storage/retrieval machine, the process which taking out the virtual prototyping technology was concluded. The methods of the realization of the virtual prototyping technology and the problems, based on the finite element method and multi-body dynamics, that should be paid attention to was discussed, and the problems which could be solved through the virtual prototyping technology in projects were discussed.
